Bluesky Resource Recommendations
Given the recent rapid increase in users and engagement on Bluesky I thought it would be helpful to put together some recommendations of Bluesky resources for new users. I may update this from time to time, but not frequently enough to warrant bookmarking and regularly checking for updates.
Starter Packs
A starter pack is a curated collection of users and feeds put together in a package. Users can share a starter pack to make it easier to follow a bunch of users and feeds at once. This can also be especially useful for helping onboard new users.
While I could share some specific starter packs, I would rather share this searchable directory of starter packs: BlueskyDirectory.com.
Update: The Bluesky Directory site now also includes searchable listings for feeds, labelers, and lists as well. So if you don't find anything of interest in the recommendations below, do some searches in that directory.
Feeds
Feeds are like little algorithms that can be created and shared by the users. This is a list of feeds that I make constant use of. You can also search for feeds in your feeds settings.
- Blacksky
- Quiet Posters
- The Skeet 'n Feed
- Journalists on Bluesky
- Another Gaming Feed
- Dropout + Dimension 20
- Wheel of Time
- Daily Haiku Prompt
Labelers
Labelers are a form of community-run moderation. These services apply labels to posts / accounts. Then you can subscribe to that labeler and choose how you'd like that service's labels to be handled. There is not yet a great way to search for labelers, so sharing good ones is key. These each do different things so read their descriptions and decide if their labels are of interest to you.
- Blacksky Moderation
- Bad Accessibility / Alt Text Labeler
- AI Imagery Labeler
- Skywatch Blue
- Spoiler Droid
- Profile Labeller
- News Detective
- Pronouns
- Independent Federated Trust & Safety Labeler
- US Politics Labeler
Moderation Lists
Moderation Lists are block / mute lists created and shared by other users. You can subscribe to these lists to automatically moderate the users on the list.
